Foster by Claire Keegan is about a little girl who arrives at the home of family, quite suddenly, and is not quite sure how long she will be there or even why she is there. Keegan is known for writing the most beautiful, poignant and simple (yet not simple at all) shorty stories. Beautifully written, the perfect turn of a phrase, deeply emotional and moving, lots more going on than you realize at first. Her stories have an "in medias res" feel. You start in the middle or midst of things. She allows you to be a fly on the wall for just a bit then it's time to move on but you are changed after you leave. You want more though you've been given enough. I don't know how else to explain. Just read/listen...you will not be disappointed.
