I haven’t posted a completed knitting, quilting or sewing project in ages! It’s way over due…so without further ado…here’s Marin

A bit late but who really cares? It’s done and I love it!

I wanted to post an “action” shot but it’s 100% humidity, and pouring rain out today.

As usual I wish you could really see the color but my camera, more likely the photographer, are not the greatest.

The edging on this shawl is what makes it amazing!

Just look at that!!! Gorgeous!!

Pattern:   MARIN by Ysolda

Yarn:    Bugga by Sanquine Gryphon (this yarn company is now two separate companies), colorway, Cockshafer.  I bought it at last year’s NY Sheep and Wool festival and I’m kicking myself for only buying one!!!!!

Needles:  #5, 24″  Addi Turbo Lace

Mods: None…followed the pattern exactly!!! Great pattern!!

Thinking More Clearly

…now that the shock has worn off a bit and I’ve re-read the email from Sanguine Gryphon, I have to correct myself.  Michelle, you are right.  There will still be Bugga yarn and yes it will be carried by both companies.  It was the part about their yarn bases running out that confused me a bit.

So if yesterday’s post caused even more panic than the announcement itself I do apologize.  I think I just glazed over after the first few lines of the email and my brain shut down for a moment.

And Kim, my friend, if you are reading this a skein is headed your way…

…about the email I got from Sanguine Gryphon yesterday.  The company is saying good bye.  At the end of the year the company many of us know and love will be no more.  They are dividing their forces into 2 companies.  So the base yarn for all my SG favorites will be gone…as in I can’t get it any more…as in HOLY S–T what do I do now…. Here’s the message, because I’d have to read this for myself.

Best Beloved Knitters and Long-Time Friends, You have loved and supported The Sanguine Gryphon, whether from its earliest days or much more recently, and by your support have made it possible for us to pursue our passion, to live doing what we love. You have cheered us on through all we have done and become our friends. It is with sadness that we now come to you to share something difficult. In June of 2009, The Sanguine Gryphon became a partnership: two studios, one located in Easton and one located in Baltimore. It came with complications, but we made it work, and for a long time it worked really, really well. When the economy shifted, things shifted for us as well. With time, those complications became more significant; they became less the quirky inconveniences of doing business in an unusual way and grew into significant issues that began to impact our every decision. It has come to a point where we have had to make a very difficult decision. After a great deal of thought and discussion, we have determined that we must sever the umbilical cord joining the two studios and divide The Sanguine Gryphon into two separate companies. This allows us to continue to do what we love with the people we love, without the additional expense of trying to stretch this work
through two studios that have 65 miles between them. Our plan is to dissolve The Sanguine Gryphon as close to the end of this year as possible, and to open two new, separate companies in early 2012.And so- this announcement isn’t only about the death of The Sanguine Gryphon, but also about the birth of two new companies: Cephalopod Yarns, in Baltimore, Maryland, and The Verdant Gryphon, in Easton, Maryland. There is still much to figure out and we will keep you posted on the SG blog and Ravelry as our plans develop. For now we can assure you that both companies will carry Bugga!, that the Easton colourways will be carried by The Verdant Gryphon and the Baltimore colorways will be carried by Cephalopod Yarns, and that we will continue to be loosely affiliated and very likely do quirky yarny things together. You can expect to find all the things that you have loved about SG in the two new enterprises- it will just look a little different. And before that? We will be dyeing and listing all the inventory of SG before our fresh starts, so you can look forward to a few months of wild dyeing. Unfortunately, it does mean that yarn bases will run out one by one. We will keep you informed via the blog and Ravelry where inventory stands. We also know that you will have many questions during the course of the next few months. Please be assured that we will address all questions and concerns as they arise and that our first priority will be to make the transition as smooth as possible, for ourselves but especially for you, the enablers of our adventures.

While we are very sad to end our partnership and bid farewell to The Sanguine Gryphon, we are also looking forward with excitement to our new futures and new directions for our creative development, and we hope that you will come with us on this newest phase of the adventure. We would love to be able to fulfill your wildest yarn dreams for many years to come.

Affectionately yours,

Sarah and Gryphonhttp://sanguinegryphon.com

No, I’m not upset, I just take a while to get used to change.  From what they wrote in their message this change will be good for them.  Not that it really matters but I support them totally….

I support them, I support them, I support them…if I keep saying it then I can’t say what I really want to say.  I’ll miss my beloved Bugga.

Must knit faster so I can justify buying more.

Just follow the message on the bag…

What am I thinking?  Making you all wait 3 whole days for pics of the stash.  1,000 pardons…so no more talking, here it is!  One more thing, this stuff was more than worth the 2 hour wait.

Allow me to introduce you to Zaftig Bugga, colorway, Killer Tree….in a word DELICIOUS!!!  I can’t describe how good this yarn feels in my hands.  And the name, Zaftig according to Webster’s,  “having a full, rounded figure.  Pleasingly plump”  ie. “The actress playing the leading role was a ZAFTIG blonde”.

The yarn that stole my heart on Saturday was zaftig and earthy!!!

Skinny Bugga, also in colorway Killer Tree, because I think I may have found my perfect shade/shades of brown.

Bugga, colorway Fierce Snake

Mithril (because I had to own yarn called Mithril…Yes, I’m a fan and want to be a Hobbit in my next life), colorway, Woman Under The Willows (can you think of a more perfect name? no I can’t either).  750 yds of lace weight heavenly-ness.  This may hang around for a while until a project (quest) worthy of it comes along.

Yes, more Bugga, because I had to.  Colorway Cockchafer

Kira’s sweater is patiently waiting for sleeves but it may have to wait a bit longer.  Who can resist casting on immediately?

For those who don’t own any of this yarn, if you’re planning to treat yourself to anything fiber related trust me you won’t be disappointed.

Happy Shopping…Sanguine Gryphon.

Before I forget, a huge thank you to all who visited my blog over the last few days.  I’ve never had so many hits in a day (399 on Saturday, 163 on Sunday).
