It’s been said time and time again that in order to get really good at something you have to practice, practice, practice. Well I have been and it’s paying off!!! But even as you’re practicing make sure it is something you really love to do or it can be torture. I’ve been practicing free motion quilting for years now and I’ve definitely got it on small projects but to do it on a large-scale is something entirely different. Here’s my first BIG project! I’ve started and stopped this over the course of almost 2 years but it’s finally done.
Stippling is one of my favorite forms of quilting and I can honestly say I thing I’ve got the hang of it!!!
As you can see, Kira won’t let it out of her sight. Thanks honey for braving the mosquitoes for my photo shoot!
It’s approximately 50 x 60 and I can’t wait to snuggle up under it with my girl. Actually we could all fit under it!
Sorry the first few pictures are a bit dark. I was chasing the fading light around the house. There was no way I was taking these pictures at high noon in this heat!!!
One of the reasons I love this quilt is I started quilting it, as I said, almost 2 years ago and I really got to see my progress as a quilter.
I went from this, eye lashes (as they are called),
Practice, practice, practice….
For the binding I used a length of fabric from each square in the patchwork.
Even though I’m so happy this is finished I’m going to miss it!!! Is that strange? I guess it’s liking finishing a good book. You read the last page and think, now what…
Actually I’ve already got another quilt waiting for me. In the meantime…All we need now is a crisp Autumn evening, some hot chocolate with marshmallows and the Sound of Music on TV…
Is it fall yet?
