Sunday is the new Friday. I wanted to post on Friday but time in my world time has moved up to “ridiculous speed” and I just can’t seem to catch up. At least with my blog. So settle in cause this is gonna be a bit of a long.
First off the ETG family is headed to the Caribbean this morning to spend Christmas in Barbados. My mum’s side of the family decided last Christmas that we should have a family reunion this year for the holiday. At the time, I and everyone not residing on the island thought wow what a perfect idea. The entire family has not been “home” since my granny passed away 30 years ago (this year). 30 years…the staggers my mind.
Anyway, the entire clan will be decending on Grantley Adams Airport tomorrow afternoon. The NewYork, San Francisco, Canada, Atlanta and Bahamaian branches all at the same time meeting the branches already there. 10 families and all their internal families. In total, 53 people. So here’s the fun part. Only my immediate family and two aunts know I’m pregnant….do you see where I’m going with this. When I first told my mum she said wouldn’t it be fun if we didn’t say anything and I just surprised everyone by showing up for Christmas 5 months along. Well what started as a joke, stuck. I’ll let you know how the revelation was received. I’m excited but a bit freaked out at the same time. I know this may be hard to believe but while I’m looking forward to this trip, it is not going to be easy. I won’t bore you all with the details. It’s classic holidays with the family type stuff compounded with travelling with extended family and all the other crap. Fun but stressful too. Stressful x 53.
But then again how stressful can this be….Really?
This is the driveway to my Aunt’s house where we are staying. Yes, palm trees in December. Didn’t I just have them in November….this is becoming a habit.
So how about the other side of the family. Chris, God bless him, has been more than patient and willing with all this but I think he will be just as relieved when we return. But, it’s not over. Chris’s family, who are more than willing to wait until we get back to celebrate with us, have decided not to buy gifts this year but make them. That’s fine for me, being a knitter, but guess what three of the 5 requests were, scarves. The other two are hats (all done, pictures later). And not just 3 separate scarves (I detest knitting scarves for those of you who don’t know) but 3 identical scarves. The scarf they all want I’ve been wearing for 7 years but all of a sudden last year they decided they all love it so much they must have exact duplicates of it.
Here they are…
For this knitter I can’t think of a more painful thing. Knitting the same thing 3 times in a row…Somebody just shoot me. Yes, I’m being dramatic. 2 are done. Here’s the third so far.
This may have to come with me so I can finish it on the plane. This is what I want to work on. Maybe on the return flight.
I will post vacation pictures and holiday updates when we return. In the meantime have a wonderful Chrismahanakwanzika. I think that covers it all.
Happy and Merry Everyone!
