What To Take With Me

I’m going to see Lilith Fair today with my sister at the PNC Banks Arts Center. Can you say excited? About a month ago she called me and said she’d just gotten two tickets and we were going on July 31st. what, What, WHAT!!!! She said she didn’t want to ask me first because she knows I would have been heming and hawing (as we say) and making excuses not to go. This way it was a done deal. I’m so freakin’ excited. For so many reasons. An entire after/evening listening to excellent music, in the company of my dear sister, KNITTING!!! and having a little break from my little one.

Now after all that I have two thoughts on this day. One…what knitting project to take with me. Two…as much as I welcome a short respite from my Kira I’m going to miss her so much. Am I nuts? I haven’t even left yet, it’s 10:30 am and I miss her already. She’ll be in the best hands but…

Ok…back to thought number one. What project? Socks of course but what yarn? Yes, I know I’m way over thinking this but just bear with me. This is such a rare gift to have so many hours to myself to knit and chill out I want to knit wisely.

I’m not leaving until 1pm so there is time to decide. Here are my choices.

Mountain Colors Crazyfoot (Red Tail Hawk)

Their Bearfoot has been one of my favs for years and I’m dying to try this new yarn.

or Dragon Fibers Dragon Sock (Bad Moon Rising)(just arrived yesterday from Loopy Ewe) A bit colorful for me but why not…but I’m also thinking to save this for a colorwork project I have on my list.

or scrape socks all together and work on another Damson in Skinny Bugga (Long Horned Beetle)

Choices…it’s so great to have them.

I Never Thought…

Gardening, weeding, water plants, tying up heavy branches full of tomatoes in the hot sun, dirty finger nails, sore knees, aching back..there was no way I was going to love that.

But then I saw this…

and the taste….I’m hooked. What to plant next year?

Mum Mum Mum

…is what I hear all day and I love it!! The sound of my daughter calling me, or asking me for something or asking me to do something…the tone of the “mum” changes with the need or the moment. If the sound of her voice were something I could physically wrap myself in I would never take it off. 100 degree…I wouldn’t care.

For the past 432 days I have nursed my daughter at bedtime. Tonight was the first time I didn’t…I feel excited (to start to have my body back to myself), relieved (I’ve been trying to wean her and was a bit worried about going about it), and proud (that she’s growing up). I also feel completely freaked out, sad and strangely lonely. Onto the next phase but I’m soooo going to miss this one. I’m not saying last night was the last for good but it’s the beginning…

In the grand scheme of things is this important…no. Will it make a difference to the gulf, to wars being fought, to anyone but me, no. But in my grand scheme it’s huge and I feel “full” with emotion. The only place to put it is in my knitting.

Each stitch so full… I started this sweater for her last night. I guess I felt this coming. I’m going to go knit and be quiet now.

…that today is really Monday and not Friday. Where did this week go? In case you haven’t noticed I’m having real issues with time and misplacing it.

Last Friday I said I would post the winners of my blogiversary giveaway and oh my god….it’s Friday again. See, six days gone…how does this happen?

What To Do….

…with all this love yall are sending my way? I think I’ll just wrap myself up in it, have a glass of iced tea (it’s so darn hot) and decide on a winner for that lovely skein of yarn. I’ll have a decision by Monday…fingers crossed!! I might even have to dig up another skein of something for a second prize. There is nothing sweeter than sharing the blessings you’ve been given and I honestly feel like I’m rolling in them right now.

Happy 3rd Anniversary

Earthtones Girl was three years old yesterday. As with everything else, where did the time go. I love this little place in cyberspace that I call my own. I’ve met amazing people, great knitters and been supported, comforted and loved during good times and bad.

In honour of this special occasion I’ve made a little house-keeping change, new header. Hope you like it. My favorite knitting item, socks, in my new favorite place, my backyard. I’ll give you details about the socks in my next post…

Settling In

Well we’re in our new home but I’m up to my eyeballs in things to do. Still painting, unpacking, sorting, purging, etc, etc, etc. Not to mention living in between all that. Kira celebrated her first birthday, I celebrated my 2nd Mother’s Day, I planted an herb garden for the first time, painted for the first time…lots of firsts going on. It’s all fun but the day is over before it begins.

I’ll have lots of pictures soon….promise. I’ll also have a new laptop so that will make jumping online much easier.

17 Days

…is the name of an old Prince song that only the die hard fans would know. As of yesterday that is how many days we have left in our apartment and how many days until moving day. We’ve been working like crazy on the place, getting floors done, painting, replacing this, fixing up that…etc. I doubt we’ll be done by the end of the month but we can continue to work on it while we’re in there. That’s the fun…a house is a work in progress…as I’ve learned over the last few weeks.

I’m excited but it’s a bit daunting to move your entire life from one place to another. To see your once neat and organized home being dismantled. Boxes everywhere, starting to reach for something and realizing you’ve packed it already. That must only be me. As soon as I put something in a box, label it and tape it up I suddenly need it. No I don’t but I tell myself I do. This is just a little torturous for me.

And through it all I’m still knitting…a little. These poor socks have been on my needles for weeks now. I’m sorry but at the end of the day I can bearly knit a row before I pass out. And I really do have some serious knitting to do. Friends having babies, a very important thank you gift to make.

Dear God,

Just one simple request…more hours in a day please. I promise I’ll never ask for another thing….

The deal is done. A phone book size stack of legal documents have been signed and more checks than I care to discuss have been written. We are now home owners. HOOOORAY!!!!
