It takes a while when you first move into a house to learn its personality. While I love my house it’s has a few quirks that more than get on my nerves. For one, all the doors, once ajar, including closets, seem to move on their own. They either swing shut or open accordingly. Can you say annoying? Most of the time when there is no breeze in the house (which is seldom, that’s another thing (good one this time) the doors are still but when the windows are open forget it.
This was our solution! It’s cheap, easy and widely used.
But then I saw this pattern on Pinterest and VOILA!!!!
Charming is the first word that comes to my mind. I love them!!!
These are for Kira’s room…
The pattern suggested canvas or duck cloth on the bottom which will hold up to wear and tear better than just the cotton fabric.
Modification:
The pattern did not suggest lining the top or sides in any way but I did. I used a feather weight fusible interface on each piece then sewed them together. It was a bit thick but I love the result. They are very sturdy and should last!
I also used a 2″ bias tape maker to make the handles then top stitched them. That little tool is worth a post of its own.
My only problem was thinking of what to weigh them down with. Sand, could leak and get messy. Dried beans, food stuff even dry is asking for trouble. Solution! Fish tank gravel. Its’ small, super cheap, easy to get and maintenance free. Thanks for the suggestion May!
Family, children, friend moments aside there is nothing more satisfying than finishing a project!!!
And in case you missed it above the pattern can be found HERE.
Happy Sewing…

They are even cuter than I imagined! Again, I LOVE the fabric choice. So glad the fish tank gravel did the trick!!
How clever! I love May’s idea of the fish gravel. I would like to see a tutorial on this bias tape maker if you get a chance. I’ve never used one and am intrigued.
