True to my word I sat down and spent some time trying to learn paper piecing. It was more of an attack with extreme determination. And as I posted on Facebook on Saturday there was quite a bit of cursing, and sweating and throwing of things but I was learning.
A creative mess here on my sewing table. I’m surprised my glasses are still in tact considering how many times I ripped them off my face in frustration.
Reading directions/instructions on this technique are like trying to read Japanese. My mind can’t seem to translate the written to the physical. But in this age of technology (thank you God!!) there is YouTube.
I found this tutorial and all of a sudden BANG. It made sense. I did have to watch it about 5 times but I got….or rather I now understand what’s happening.
See…now I’m getting somewhere…
And there it is…half an apple! Just have to do the other side.
I took that picture and realized I laid the B side upside down. Definitely a cue to stop for the day so I retreated to what I do best.
This should have been cast on since last week but I’m a bit behind. It’s for my aunt Dianne who raved about my Marin shawl and very subtly requested one for herself.
Oh the relief and comfort of the familiar…..
Believe me I haven’t given up on piecing just need a break. I’m also waiting for books on the technique to arrive today, a little birthday gift to myself, which should be a great help and inspiration.

Keep going, don’t give up. It will all come together for you and I’m sure you’ll come to love it. Good for you for trying something new though. I decided to follow your lead and tried a new joining technique this week – the Braided Join. Hmmmph, it turned out okay. I blogged about it, you’ll have to see for yourself and tell me whether you think it looks okay. It was good to try something new though and step out of my comfort zone, even if I will quite quickly return to my old square box.
The fabric is really pretty, good luck with future attacks!
