So my friend, Julie left a comment on my last post (Muk!) saying she didn’t believe that I was finished with my Christmas knitting…well I think you jinxed me Julie. Well I WAS done and had very happily moved onto finishing up the rest of my ’07 projects and mentally planning ’08 projects…then the phone rang…
My sister-in-law called me yesterday at about 2pm to say she’s figured out what she wants for Christmas. A pair of “those gloves that have the flap so it turns into a mitten…”. I said Ann…I’ve only been asking you what you want for almost 2 months and you decide 7 days before Christmas…Sure, no problem…I’ll get right on them. Oh and did I mention she wants them in black. Knitting black…why not just blind fold me. I love her to pieces but here’s a classic example of someone who doesn’t knit having no idea…and the best part (did I mention I lover her to death), she’ll probably loose one.
I cast on one today and I’m about a third of the way through…I’m going to cheat a bit though. I’m not doing individual fingers. I’m going to do ribbing up by the fingers then work the flap and be done. Her hands will still be warm and they’ll be under the tree in time.
The ones on the left I made a few years ago. I’m using those as the template for the black ones with some minor adjustments like a longer cuff and a thumb flap.
Thanks Julie!! Merry Christmas to you and Brian!

You’re flying through those mittens. You sister-in-law is very lucky that you’re so generous. Although isn’t that what Christmas is often about, last minute knitting. If I don’t have something I’m feverishly trying to complete come the 23rd, I’d feel lost.
