Forgive me for I have sinned, it has been 6 days since my last post…but I have actually been very busy…I’ve finally dusted off, oiled and tighten up all the screws and spent some quality time with my wheel this weekend. And I asked myself…what took me so long? I think I had to figure out that though I like to knit alone I’d rather spin with someone. You don’t have to concentrate when you spin. Yes, you’re trying to control the twist, the size of the yarn you’re making, and your hands and feet are both going but the entire activity lends itself much more to being social then knitting does. That’s for me anyway…when I knit I want to zone out, quiet my mind, etc…
A friend of mine, Julie, just bought one of these at the sheep and wool festival and invited me over…we had a great time…as you can see. That’s Julie in the background and my bobbin in the front.
I should have gotten a better picture of the yarn on the bobbin…sorry. I’ll post more yarn shots later. I was using a blend of corriedale and border leicester in earthtone colors (no surprise there).
Actually it was this…Marshmellow & Fudge, given generously by sheep named King Arthur, Odyssey, Eri, Lex & Cocoa, thank you all…there is something special about knowing where and who your yarn comes from.
I was spinning all of it together but then I decided to split it up, separating the brown from the tan and white…I’ll show you that soon too.
Maybe I’ll designate Saturday spinning day…
Here’s Julie on her gorgeous minstrel in front of the fire place. The whole scene fit perfectly with the warmth and coziness of her amazing home.
Check out the gloves and scarf she made with her own handspun…handspun she made on a drop spindle…the yarn is gorgeous and buttery soft. I am a mess on a drop spindle.
Look at that color.
We had such a great time…I also got a ton of knitting done too. I finally finished Notre Dame de Grace (she’s being blocked with the Hand to Hand) one of a pair of socks and I’m almost finished one of the selbuvotter (NHM #7, that Harlot is doing the same one)…lots of pictures and detail coming soon. My life is a bit full right now and I also have my cousin coming for a visit this coming weekend. And I’m trying to fit in more knitting time…maybe tonight…

Wow, our spinning day memorialized on the web! Very cool. I got inspired and finished spinning all my Finn yarn that came with the Minstrel. Then I started on some carded, rather than combed fiber I had here, and explored woolen yarn a little.
Also, your banana chocolate chip bread is great!
Thanks, Denise!
